Background and Before FlexRule
mLeasing, was facing time-to-market and agility pressures in a competitive financial services market. Introducing new leasing products or modifying existing ones required up to three months, largely due to complex and deeply embedded business decision logic across their systems.
All critical product, sales, and risk-related decisions were locked inside IT-managed code, which created dependency bottlenecks. Every change required coordination with IT, architectural adjustments, and extensive regression testing, delaying the ability to respond to evolving customer needs, regulatory changes, or market opportunities.
The decision processes themselves, covering underwriting, eligibility, pricing, and configuration, were complicated, with numerous parameters, exceptions, and conditional paths. This complexity made the logic hard to explain, manage, or adjust quickly. As a result, innovation was slowed, and competitive responsiveness was reduced.
- Slow product launch cycles — Introducing or updating products could take up to three months, limiting agility in responding to market and customer needs.
- High IT dependency — Business decisions were embedded in code, requiring significant IT involvement and slowing the ability to adapt quickly.
- Complex and fragmented decision structures — Sales, eligibility, configuration, and risk processes contained numerous parameters and exceptions, making them hard to manage, align, and explain to stakeholders.
The FlexRule Solution
mLeasing adopted the Open Decision Intelligence Platform to shift from rigid, IT-controlled processes to a Decision-Centric Approach®, transforming how product, risk, and compliance decisions are configured, validated, and deployed.
Faster Decision Execution
New product offerings and changes can now be introduced in hours or days instead of months, enabling rapid response to market and customer demands.
Empowered Business Decision-Makers
Business analysts, not just developers, can now design and manage decision logic directly, removing IT bottlenecks and enabling agility.
“FlexRule is a very intuitive product, not only for people that use and define the rules but also developers who are trying to integrate it with our systems.”
Artur Lipski, IT Leader, mLeasing
Governed, Situation-aware, Open
Sales, eligibility, configuration, and risk decisions are now centralised, making them easier to understand, manage, and align with changing regulations and business needs.
Key Takeaway
- Time-to-market reduced from three months to just hours or days.
- Increased agility in adapting to new market opportunities and regulatory requirements.
- Greater transparency in decision-making, making processes easier to communicate and manage.
- Business-led decision ownership reduced dependency on IT and accelerated change cycles.
- Improved operational efficiency through centralisation of decision logic and reduced manual effort.
In the past we needed three months to introduce new products, but after implementing FlexRule we shortened this to a couple of days….It will only be profitable for our company if the whole process is automated. The FlexRule engine will cover most of the sales and risk decisions in our leasing process.
